Environmental Site Assessments

Phase I environmental site assessments (ESAs) for properties in the Bronx, NY. These sites had been developed before 1930 and one site had a history of automotive services, including fuel sales and the other for retail tenants. Historical research and a supplemental geophysical study were used to support conclusions on the possible presence of underground storage tanks (USTs) at one site and the potential for past dry-cleaner tenancy at the retail site.

Research

Feasibility study for establishing a potable water supply for a commercial bottling plant (Sidney, NY). The client had existing wells that he believed could supply high-quality water for commercial bottling. The study included evaluating local well records and determining whether the property could comply with NY State Health Department property size and sanitary setback standards.

Permit Application

Assistance in obtaining required permits and forms from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) in advance of a dewatering project during construction of a condominium development (Roslyn, NY).

Water Supply Investigations

Conducting aquifer tests to determine safe yield for new well supply systems and to comply with local township requirements for new residential development in Monmouth and Hunterdon Counties, NJ. Projects included analysis of geologic data and running aquifer tests that could support Groundwater Diversion Permits and compliance with state water supply “Grandfather Rights” applicable to repurposing agricultural water supplies.

Environmental Remediation

This Bronx, NY project involved soil sampling, UST removal and historical petroleum spill remedial investigation. Services included evaluation of analytical data from UST removal, installation and sampling of monitoring wells based on data from nearby Brownfields and spill investigations. The investigations had to address complex hydrogeologic conditions and site history that were complicated by a number of closely located sources of fuel and manufactured gas plant (MGP) contamination.

Contamination Studies

Assisted an owner of a Rye, NY commercial property that had previously been used as a dry cleaner and was cited by the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation as a likely source of chlorinated solvent in groundwater at a nearby petroleum spill site. A groundwater investigation showed that the former dry cleaner was not the source and the case was closed.

Electric Power Utility Studies

Power plant cooling water intake study and testing based on patented Substrate Intake System (SIS), involving obtaining and evaluating both terrestrial and marine geotechnical borings (Shoreham, NY).

Stormwater Pollution Protection Studies

Stormwater Pollution Protection Plan (SWPPP) inspections at site of dewatering project, conducted biweekly/weekly (Roslyn, NY).

We are also experienced in using various Electronic Data Management Programs (EDMs) such as EQuIS and Envirodata to analyze data and prepare it for submittal to regulatory government agencies.
